Ivar Aasen and Nynorsk
So how many foreigners living in Norway have learned Nynorsk and how many have learned Bokmål?

Scot. I think it must be Bokmaal that my son speaks - as do most native Norwegians in Oslo, I think. In fact most Norwegians I myself speak with (in English) profess to despise Nynorsk as nationalistic foolishness.

I have an Aussie friend who lived in Norway for years and she said the same thing: most Norwegians strongly dislike Nynorsk. A comparable view might some people in Scotland wanting everyone to write in the Scots language/dialect instead of standard English.
Be aware, however: Bokmål and Nynorsk refer only to the written language; neither Bokmål nor Nynorsk are 'spoken' (there are many dialects of Norwegian).

I learned a fair bit of Nynorsk and local dialect during my time on the Nordfjord. Surprised a fair few people :-) I learned mainly from locals and local media rather than text books. For the majority of Nynorsk words I know the Bokmål as well though.

Hey, Adele. When you got your Norwegian citizenship, did they make you give up your existing citizenship(s)?
