Expat Brit getting married in Sweden

Hi / Hej,

I am an expat Londoner living in Malmö,Sweden and wondered if any other Brits have got married in Sweden and what paperwork i need if any from UK?

I am a permanent resident but not a citizen.

Do i need an affidavit or is there a government form?

Do i have to prove ive never been married?

Thanks/Tack

Dal

Hi Dal, :goodpost:

I can't answer your question, but will be interested in any answers.

I am also considering getting married in Sweden, and I am in the same boat as you (even so much as living in Skåne). I hadn't considered the possibility of needing to do anything paperwork wise for the UK (I am not going to change my name), so will be interested in hearing what is necessary!

Tracy.

Hiya Tracey,

It appears we have to get a certificate of non impedance from UK or an afidavit
to prove we are not currently married or registered as married in UK.

I found this who you have to email but i got an auto reply and you have to type in certain letters to get a personal response.

Hi Dal,

Thanks for that! I will look in to it! We have no definite plans yet, but we have been advised that we should for legal reasons - I know, so un-romantic, but 15 years and two kids later, we have kind of got past that stage!

I have heard of the pub - not greatly into football, but if there are some token females about, I might have to take you up on the offer!
