Road trip in Scandinavia. Where to rent a car?
Hi guys,
we would like to do a road trip across Finland, Sweden and Norway this summer (August).
Do you have any advice on what car rental to use?
Are you aware of any problem in renting a car in a Country and returning it in another?
The idea would be to start from Helsinki and finish up in Oslo, where we can catch a plane to come back to the UK (unfortunately )
Cheers

Hmm, to rent a car for a scandiavia road trip would be difficult to next to impossible I would imagine, not to mention the immense cost.
The reason for this is that many car rentals are specific to the city in which they are based, so to start with you would need something that is likely established in all 3 countries.
Having said that, www.rent-a-wreck.se actually fills some of your requirements, we've rented cars from them before and the name doesn't apply to the quality of the car, more the fact that they are preowned and basic models. They are quite reasonable price wise and probably a good place to start.
You might find it easier and cheaper to actually buy one specifically for the purpose and sell it afterward if you don't need it any more.
Good luck.

You might be right.
Especially if we want to include Finland (£1200 for a VW Polo1.4 for 10 days from Oslo to Helsinki).
The price is halved if we choose to do from Oslo to Stockholm (europcar.com).

I would definitely think about buying a car - the ferries are pretty good (we usually go from Immingham to Gothenburg). Remember to visit beautiful (and sometimes overlooked) southern Sweden!

Thanks for the advice but buying a car for 10 days seems to me a bit of an overkill

I know!
How about going by public transport? Although also quite costly (everything is here), it might be cheaper than buying a car. Plus it is wide-spread and easily accessible!
Good luck with whatever you decide!

No, we want to have a road trip.
We both love to be on the road and to be free of going where we want and when we want.
At the moment, given the price of car rental in two countries, we are just think to focus on Norway and leave Sweden for another time.
