But, on the positive, at least I'll probably go* whereas you are likely to fail to decide how to get to the airport and cancel everything.

Tell me about it. 28.5 hours there 27.5 hours back on Turkish for 11k

EK were something stupid like 33 hours there but 19 back but wanted 20k

Difficult to justify the difference.

There wasn't anything I could see for less than 15k which is butt-hurtingly expensive.

yup. the summer round trip for the wife and kids was just over 30k! Nasty routing of DXB->FRA->ABZ->FRA->GIG->FLP->GRU->FRA->DXB. Well any routing that includes ABZ is nasty, but you get my point.
