Why I Hate Nursery Schools
I have said before on here (and was roundly criticised) that nursery schools and kindergartens are not the place for under-two year olds, especially here in the UAE where the standard of care is dodgy to say the least. Such young children should be at home with their mothers, full time. Sorry but that's my view on the matter and this latest incident helps to show why...

However, in the case of mini-millhouse his chances of long term survival significantly improved when he started going to nursery and spending time out of house!

anyway, this article doesn't give any info really so we don't know what has happened...kids die at home as well you know...no parent supervises their child 24/7 and if they do, there is something wrong with them.

Re: Why I Hate Nursery Schools
My boy spent a lot of time in nurseries and he is a lot more socialised because of it. We had an incident with a family friend who babysitted him a few times and ended up letting him run riot but that's it. My experience of schools and nurseries has been excellent in the UAE...
Back home I feel we are not doing enough to make sure women don't have to work if they want children - our birth rates are rubbish and immigration won't help do anything but replace the population over time...which effectively destroys the culture. Without a 2.1 birthrate we're looking at decline and possible long term removal. We seem to be happy to let women struggle while we continue to send billions overseas to countries who hate us. So much for charity beginning at home.

It's sad that some mothers HAVE to work. I think I'd be quicker to moan about that than care in nurseries...someone else has rightly pointed out kids can die at home with their parents in plain sight let alone outside in care.

agree about the socialisation, you can always spot the kid who hasn't been to nursery...

Anyhow, yes, some people have to go back to work after their baby, but it doesn't exempt them from a certain amount (ie LOTS) of due diligence in vetting who will be bringing up their child.

Not so... nursery isn't the only place to socialise your child. Ok, it takes a bit of effort, but there are loads of playgroups, drop-ins and other activities that serve the same purpose... and it also depends on the mum's reaction to certain situations - like risk. You can spot the child who's never been more than a meter away from its mum and never met a boundary in its life, that's for sure!

I'm asking because my wife and I are due to have our first child soon and we are keen not to screw the little fella up too much

Hi there I'm interested in your comments about being able to spot the kids that haven't been to nursery, what observations have you made that make them stand out?

For every 'report' that says this bla bla is bad, there is another that says bla bla is good...find your own way.
Feed it regularly, talk to it, make sure it doesn't drown in the bath while you are out having a cigarette...that's about it really.

lol...no matter what you do, someone will think you are not doing the right thing...and certainly don't ask for the opinion of someone on a forum that you know nothing about...use your common sense, do what you feel is right for you and that suits your situation, there are no experts in this field, trust me...and when they are teenagers, they are going to hate you anyway, so that's all cool.

Re: Why I Hate Nursery Schools
actually, maybe what i should have said is have to or want to work...not every woman wants to stay home 24/7 with the kids, doesn't mean they don't love them or aren't fit to be a mother...

To be fair if we were in the UK nursery wouldn't be needed for my boy - he'd have ten cousins to play with plus the kids in the neighbourhood. I suppose if you have a small family and no friends with kids there's a real need for nursery. I only went to nursery a few days a week just to give my mum a rest, she didn't work until my sister went to school - most of the time I was at home being beaten by her like all good kids were in my day
