Are we all middle class now?

Re: Are we all middle class now?
I must admit I can't stand people with bad table manners- however I have no idea which cutlery should be used for what-(other than what I learnt watching Pretty Woman) Ok I know a fish knife and fork and obviously a teaspoon is used for all puddings as it makes them last longer!

Re: Are we all middle class now?
When my parents visited us when we lived in Japan some time back, I went out to get McDonalds for us all (the kids were young then, and liked the Happy Meals--shudder). Anyway, I got back and my mother had warmed the plates, put a tablecloth on the table and prepared the cutlery and linen napkins.

Re: Are we all middle class now?
But I thought your dad was a teacher. I would not really class that as working class but maybe I'm wrong. My dad was a van driver and we were raised in a council house, but I still don't regard my family as anything but lower middle class rather than working class. To me, the term working class implies manual or factory labour. Nowadays the bottom rung of the ladder is probably taking up by the non-working class or benefits scroungers.

I guess, if it's an automatic then maybe not.

Trouble is, the barriers between income and class have become rather blurred.
Can you improve your socio-economic status with income? Good question.........
What is the socio-economic status of a working class Scouse lad who now earns about GBP 7 million per year (Wayne Rooney, say)? Working classes never earned that kind of money - couldn't earn that kind of money - until recently.........

Good decent people come from all walks of life and most genuine people aspire to have a better standard of life in some shape or form . It's how you handle yourself within them aspirations that count.

Re: Are we all middle class now?
if you've pissed outdoors in the past 12 months you're working class
* I think the confusion stems from the new underclass that will never work, making the working class appear middle class
