WC 2022
I see the idiot Platini is putting his tuppence worth in........
Did anyone voting for Qatar not think about the implications of playing football in 50° heat? The world cup should be played in June/July.

Just proves they're thick as shit and about the money.
If they really thought about it, they'd only have accepted the bid if all the stadiums were enclosed with AC.

Re: WC 2022
Exactly. You put bids in knowing the tournament is played in june/july thus you have to make arrangements that the tournament can be played then. There is no way they can suspend all countries football for a month in the winter. Its madness.

Re: WC 2022
They should FORCE them to play in those temperatures. The resulting death toll could be seen as "Selection of the Fittest" or "Natural Selection".

He did however make a good point about it becoming a regional event, sharing with the UAE would work.

I say the European countries should boycott it.... its not like we would do any well in it anyway! Moving it to the winter months would cause all sorts of bother to on just the domestic leagues but also to domestic and european cup competitions.

There's not a chance the European Leagues will go for a winter tournament . Champions League football is the king in this game and nothing will get in the way of that competition .
In any case anyone that's ever been to Qatar knows that these guys are so full of shite that they couldnt lie straight in bed .
You can't even function in 45-50 degrees never mind play tournament football . 2022 is the biggest white elephant ever thought of .
This lot can't even get a bog standard Ikea open never mind host the worlds biggest sporting tournament with an influx of 500,000 people who most likely are looking to have a good old time coupled with gallons of beer !
Qatari's are alien to other cultures and they've got the hospitality skills of a Serbian Paratrooper !

Well there's no way you will find me queuing up to get into a stadium in 55 degrees in July.
I don't see they have a choice but to hold it in winter. If it was just having AC stadiums that would be one thing but the people dying in the car parks from heat stroke especially with the amount football fans drink.
The champions league can easily accomodate the break as can most domestic leagues. All it means is instead of the various seperate weeks of no premiership games because of national duty or FA cup games they will have 3 consecutive weeks on national duty.
I love the fact that Reuters assume KSA would be a goer even though its hard enough to get a visa and no women would get one at all. You'd think journalists might have some idea about the world?

Re: WC 2022
It's the World Cup so Middle East should be givven the opportunity to host
but
has to be in winter - ok this may be a logisitical challenge to other comps running (Northern hemisphere leagues, Euro 2020 & 2024 etc) but not insurmountable
The southern hemisphere leagues must be able to function with a WC slap bang in the middle of their domestic programmes every 4 years.
and yes sharing it between gulf states would be better. Gives some interest to visiting fans. but that would require cooperation between the states on schedule - imagine the arguments over who hosted the final.
