Re: Uzbekistan
I've not seen the detailed Job Spec, but seems unlikley.
Although I don't know the exact location of the jobsite, generally is it civilised, safe, wet, interesting? Which other country would you consider it most like?

Re: Uzbekistan
safe - yes, apart from some specific areas. Transition of power from Karimov, when it happens, could be messy
wet - yes, try Chelsea pub, fun place, several other good fun bars. Couple of quafflable local beers and plenty of vodka
interesting - great history (Samarkand, Khiva) some nice countryside, (ordinary) people very friendly, climate not unpleasant, outrageously corrupt, Iranian and Caucasian influenced food - Uzbekistan was Russia's garden so excellent fruit and vegetables
Which other country would you consider it most like? Rural southern Europe. Not really what you'd call fully civilized eg. roughly on a par with anywhere north of Watford, though you're less likely to tread in pavement pizzas on a Friday night so arguably more civilized
Seriously though, can put you in touch with a long term European resident who still has a house there if you get to considering it properly.
