Re: Today I Learned
And fossil fuels kill hundreds of thousands of people every year from pollution - perhaps millions.
Nuclear has killed a few thousand in the last 60 or so years...
N.
What's that if not statistics?
And the context? Seriously?
Let's start with the potential for a nuclear incident to kill millions in a week. It hasn't happened yet, but it could. And a well-executed terrorist attack could render an entire country uninhabitable for decades.
Power plant accidents have killed tens of thousands (probably -- reliable data aren't easy to come by).
Or that the inherent danger from burning coal can, on an industrial level, be controlled (NOx emissions from modern coal-fired power plants are not significant -- don't get me wrong here, I'm no advocate for them). CO2 emissions are certainly an issue, and carbon capture attempts have so far failed. Global warming has the potential to cause widespread devastation.
Just a few of the arguments setting out the context. Just to point out the numbers you did was as relevant and contextualised as my drunk driving made-up statistic and conclusion which ignored other relevant factors.
