Re: The Summer
Badly planned this year.......... having to be here all through Ramadan which I don't enjoy (it will be my 20th though so I suppose I should stop moaning about it).
Actually, as the kids have become adults, summer (as a sort of holiday concept) has become increasingly meaningless and irrelevant........ I find November is a good time to get away (no half-term, everyone else doing nothing until Christmas). We just signed to buy a place in Florida but we cannot use it this year as we are legally committed to honouring rental bookings made by the previous owners.

Re: The Summer
But to answer the OP, I like to use my leave at Christmas as the weather in Oman is beautiful, kids have two weeks off - staycations are great! week in April in Jordan, week in July in either Tanzania or Mauritius, week in August over Eid holiday in the Alps, and that's my annual leave used up.
What to do with the kids over the 10 week holiday with both of us working, only 2 weeks of that on holiday, and none of their mates around, I dunno....
Summer camps here are useless as they are full of badly-behaved-brought-up-by-maid-with-no-assurance-she-wont-lose-her-job-if-she-tells-off-the-kids little shits, and my boys dislike kids of certain nationalities now for that reason.

Escaping Riyadh for Dubai for a few weeks. I'm sure even with you residents feelings on the place it's got to be better than staying here......

Re: The Summer
I am here and working right through.
I change my timetable during Ramadan so that my local girls can still train..they usually come 1 or 2 hours before iftar, they can then get home, rest and then break their fast.

I will be in the Ranches alone all summer. I'll put the OMO in the window and report back.
