Next to proper nutrition and a decent abode, embrace of rationalism would be the best thing for them. I have read about Indian rationalists trying to make a difference but entrenched religious elite sabotage their efforts.

Acceptance of illogical religious dogma seemss to be the norm , in the MidEast and South Asia ; though I wonder if many people in affluent literate nations like the UAE are just faking their religious devotion. In much the same way that American politicians fake being Christian, because polls show the American people will never vote for an atheist, and prefer a Muslim presidential candidate over an Atheist.
