Stupidest thing said to me today
From a coworker (no rewards for guessing his nationality):
I don't wear deodorant because everyone knows it's bad for you. It makes men grow big boobs

Indians seem to subsist solely on rumours and misinformation. And superstition. Nothing is too outrageous for them. I guess that's what you get when you have a thousand gods. Crazy country.

So that's what happened to me!! Actually I seem to have developed a skin reaction to the active component of anti-perspirant (as opposed to deodorant which doesn't seem to cause an issue) - bizarre at my age but there you are...

Perspiration is a natural function. Just wash and it will go away.

Acceptance of illogical religious dogma seemss to be the norm , in the MidEast and South Asia ; though I wonder if many people in affluent literate nations like the UAE are just faking their religious devotion. In much the same way that American politicians fake being Christian, because polls show the American people will never vote for an atheist, and prefer a Muslim presidential candidate over an Atheist.
Richard Dawkins, dumbfounded by Al Jazeera's Mehdi Hassan.

Swarms. Crowd complex. Whatever you want to describe it as it feels very non-individual at times and just going with what everyone goes with because that's the safe option

This is timely:

Sumehara, while sounding Japanese, is actually two English words truncated and portmanteau'd. Sume, being the first two syllables of how Japanese transcribe "smell", and hara similarly the first two syllables of "harassment". So now you know.

My first experience of the Dubai metro definitely opened my eyes (and nose...) to the lack of antiperspirant/deodorant
