small island politics

Re: small island politics
I've given up on Facebook recently. It's utter drivel and constant sharing, pedaling and regurgitating lies or totally inaccurate posts.
Unfortunately people see a headline and believe it now. That's it. Done. Woe betide anyone who dare argue with them as well.
It's all a shower of shit and I've voted because I honestly don't think that Corbyn should be Prime Minister or anywhere near that office...not because May is a total hero or saviour, like it's been said here, she's slipped and has been utterly abused for it, but she's let herself down a bit recently and I want to see her get back and get on with Brexit rather than this dicking around campaigning.

Of course, but voting for them? I've no idea what any policies are from the Lib Dems, I couldn't point at Farron (is it?) in a crowd and further afield, UKIP, Greens, Monster Raving Looney? May as well just spoil your vote.
In this election I see only two real options. But they're not options, because 'options' sounds like a positive choice. Let's call them two non-selections. I've non-selected Corbyn, ergo I've voted Tory. That's maybe the fairest way?

Re: small island politics
1 - Freeeeeeeeeedom
2 - People who aren't interested in politics but are affected by free prescriptions, tuition fees, baby boxes etc first hand.
3 - Centre/left disillusioned with Scottish Labour
4 - Old school socialist/trade union types disillusioned with Scottish Labour
5 - Anyone but the Tories
On analysis
1 - Will always vote SNP blindly but the problem for them is these people are fewer than you think. Great for campaigning but not enough to win seats with alone.
2 - Exactly the people politics should actually serve, the modern SNP know this and it's why they've turned the party around via council and constituency based policies.
Other parties know this too which is why you have Conservative leaflets "No to Indyref2" front, back and centre on leaflets during the recent council elections and SLabour's "Get on with the day job".
It's a disruptive "repeat a lie often enough tactic" but while the public are actually getting free prescriptions at the chemist the SNP will hold out. A precarious group though so the SNP will need to keep delivering at this level.
3&4 - Not huge supporters of independence and some centrists will see it as a large risk, however will still go with it as a means to an end or as an alternative to whatever level Conservative decimation is at, at the time.
Away from indy more than happy to support and vote for the same reasons as group 2, though most likely to be swayed back to Labour, especially under Corbyn/post Corbyn.
5 - Completely dependent on the political landscape at the time. I'm sure there's some formula somewhere attributed to tactical voting. If you can get ahead by x then you can count on another y%.
In summary, it's quite patchwork and reliant on a few external circumstances but whether you agree with them or not they're far from fools with regards to running a winning party.
A government, independent or otherwise, is a different discussion but they're succeeding where the "first we get the power" types in Labour have failed.

Yes, and due to the currents governments stance on corporation tax, it will be honest, hard working Englishman's money too. Some guy struggling to make ends meet in Leicester or Bradford. Only white guy on the street and definitely the only guy that's paying to live in his house. What little he earns, snatched for Sturgeon's back pocket with a wee tickie given to the natives to keep them in heroin.

Re: small island politics
Negativity really turns me off with politicians. I really like the local Conservative candidate and his background and was minded to vote for him until yesterday when his 'team' turned up on the doorstep. Absolutely nothing about their policies, only disparaging scaremongering about the other parties. The leaflet they delivered at the same time had 2 messages:
1. Vote LD get the SNP.
2. No to Indy Ref 2
The current MP is SNP, previously LD for years...local odds are on the LD being the front runners in a very close 3 way race....

It has just been announced that Diane Abbott has been replaced as Shadow Home Secretary due to 'a period of ill health'. Too late I think and they should have done this weeks ago as the woman is a liability.

The info is out there and you have a responsibility to find it. Were you expecting them to find you and explain personally? None of it is a secret.

Re: small island politics
Sacking McDonnell and Milne would complete the circle.
Those two are far worse than Abbott. Milne especially.

Having said that I still have nightmares about that pic of Boris on a zipline.

They can address any doubters with "we have got rid of her", without the replacement having enough time to screw up.
