They only formally abolished slavery in 1962?! (Yet it still happens.)
Yemen is so backward it makes KSA appear to be in the 18th century...

It might be better than going to Dubai and working hard for years only to end up in crippling debt.

You're right again Dean, and we don't have to look too far probably across our desks and through our windows........I pity those here who would be found guilty under a law such as that stated above..

Slavery and Arab culture are like bread and butter. The Saudis only officially outlawed slavery in the late 60s or 70s and that was due to US pressure.
Slavery of various sorts is still routinely practiced in the Gulf. Those unpaid, passport confiscated, cooped up in labour camp , put into debt Asian labourers and housemaids are indentured servants, which is just a form of slavery.
Mauritania an Arab country where the minority Arabs and Berbers rule over the majority Black and Black-Arab mixed people still has widespread slavery, soo widespread that about 20% of the population are slaves.

It's still going on in Sudan - 200,000 slaves were taken in the second Sudanese war alone...Mauritania, where upto 20% of the population are/were slaves only criminalised slavery in 2007!!
Britain outlawed slavery in 1807 and we were patroling the seas arresting slave traders for a century after that...it took the USA another 60 years to abolish slavery completely.
