Re: Sin Tax
Only in Dubai (and I never buy it in Dubai), in Abu Dhabi it's a lot, lot cheaper, and this is a Federal tax, ie, countrywide, not specific to an Emirate.

Re: Sin Tax
Take an item at 75 dirhams.
Add 5% VAT
= 78.75
Is the seller going to leave it at that? Or round up to 80?
The extra 1.25 could go towards the cost of employing people / services to process the VAT or maybe just make it 85 just to be safe and get another slither of profit.

Re: Sin Tax
I have a strange, compelling desire to sin. Something, anything.
Suggestions, please.

I edited. Reads a bit better now, methinks.
It was just a weird floating desire to have a vice. I don't know why.
I leave for Scotland tonight. At least I hope I do. There's something odd about my booking when I attempted to check in online, which doubtlessly has to do with the ticket being a BA ticket but flight is on QR, and I'm told to check in on QR but QR won't let me, and my name is utterly screwed up but I can't get the manage my booking feature to correct it.

Don't like spicy food, sorry.
Well, not quite true. Spicy food for me is something to be experienced at the right place at the right time. Like a curry in a hot, steamy, tropical clime with a ice cold beer. Not an everyday occurrence.

Anyway. Sin.
Have something filthy for lunch?
Pint at lunch?
Kill a man?
Not sure what sort of level sin we're talking...
