I don't think Saudi journalist Kashgari is going to lose his head, only because his case has attracted some media attention and Interpol has been criticised for facilitating his arrest. But he will be made to pay dearly .

What on earth possesed the fellow to escape to another Muslim country. Probably lack of options owing to stricter visa restrictions for Gulf Arabs wanting a visa on short notice?

Legally he should be able to seek asylum in Malaysia - in reality Malaysia it's head so far up Saudi's rear it won't happen. It's no wonder he was on route to New Zealand...most of the non-western countries that have signed up to asylum laws do not take their responsibilities seriously (and they don't give handouts like the West too of course).
Nothing surprising here. Saudi's a well know state of religious extremism and tribal brutality. What is sad is how people within the 'muslim world' are not allowed to speak their minds or leave Islam if they wish without fear of punishment.
