Room 010

Re: Room 010
Fine. The spirit of medieval times.
Let the rest of the world live in their dull modern mediocrity and plastic lives like the EU bureaucrats in their Brussels offices.
I like a bit of colour and magic and entertainment and men in silly outfits.
Come to think of it, you should be lapping up every minute of it.

Re: Room 010
Are you therefore implying that the 25% or so of the British public who consistently espouse republicanism are anti-British?
I haven't expressed any opinion here that is "anti" anything. I'm just pointing out the truth about much of the pomp and circumstance that swathes the aristocratic establishment. I realise that many people are happy to be swept up and go along with it all but it is all essentially "fake" as a historical presentation.
I much prefer the long-established British tradition of rebelliousness, back to Watt Tyler and before, with which I can definitely identify. And it's far more genuinely "British" than the imported aristocracy and their fraudulent fripperies.

Aren't you exaggerating things a bit?
Support for republicanism is generally in the high teens, under 20%,
and not the 25% figure you quoted. This is verified in looking at a random selection of yougov polls in the last few years.
There's always been an element of pageantry and tradition but even if much of what we now see is a 19th century recreation, then it's been going on for 150 years or longer and is now indisputably part of our history. Are you going to tell the Scots that their obsession with tartans is just an early 19th century recreation due to a combination of George IV and Walter Scott and then Victoria's making the Highlands fashionable? While there's truth to it, it's still firmly part of the Scottish identity.
And who are the imported aristocracy and their fraudulent frippery? The oldest surviving English titles go back to the 13th century and plenty more are 400-500 years old and plenty of estates remain in family ownership after multiple centuries. They seem very British to me. Oh, are you referring to the royal family? Yes, we know of the German connections but the Queen is half Scottish, and is a direct descendant of the Plantagenets.
Even the clothes and uniforms and frippery on display have historical antecedents. The gilded footmen uniforms have been around since the early 18th century. Army uniforms have long histories of their own.
FYI the Black Rod you mentioned in an earlier post dates back to 1522 and the office itself goes back to the 1350s.

He is 19 years old today. Make that well over 90 in people terms.
He still enjoys his long walks over the paddocks. He still loves his quiet treats - sshhh do not tell the vet - and he still completely and utterly loves me and me him and now we are both older, we dribble on each other most nights where we were once both chic ' on the block' , slim and coolio. We snores at each other too. We both like that a bit. Says we can both still breathe.
I love him I do and he me.
Put us both in the room 010.

Can’t be assed to read everything. What makes us British is that we respect what went before us.
WE have history that gives us true confidence to go forward and do new things. Our engineers are amazing, we invented the internet (in local terms), ALL F1 Cars are made in England, and we have the oldest reigning monarach in the world (God Rest king of Thailand).
I maybe the next one to leave this site for the number of left wing/gorgeous George luvvies that joins only to knock the thing that we talk about, UK. I want some kind of equality between poor and rich, but honestly,m wtf will that really achieve? It wont up the poor, it will stop innovation from the rich (aka Chinese economics) I am unreservededly a royalist and have no reservations about that, I’,m most definitely not a racist so don’t go there, yup I’m a capitalist but I don’t deny the socialists a view.
Give the anti royalist and anti Brit crap a rest will you!!!
