Re: A Real legend
He was the President of the National Rifles Assoc - really right wing kinda dude. Said that CNN should be censored as they were portraying Yanks in Iraq in a bad light......
Hmm. P'haps he and Max Mosley would have made good pals.....

Re: A Real legend
Personally I have little pleasant to say about any guy who has campaigned vigorously all his life to put guns in the hands of American kids...as an actor I always found him wooden too.

Bit of a turnaround then since 1963 when he marched with Dr M.L King.....suppose its subjective but didn't the gun fixation start with his Civil Rights standpoint.....i.e Initially he was defending the Constitution wherein it states summit like Americans have the right to bear arms to defend their country. Not so much gunlove but defending Rights..........agree it became an obsession.
Ah well, no matter now least his hairpiece lives on...........

Getting closer to the truth ...he was only involved heavily with the NRA for 5 years .. probably to pay for his cancer treatment
Early in his career, he was one of very few Hollywood actors to speak out against racism and was active in the civil rights movement
publicly supported the Gun Control Act of 1968
picketed his own film because the audience was segregated
was Pro-life
fought political correctness
Overall a good guy ...
