She totally deserved her standing ovation. Pity she can't run for shit though, but hey, she looked nice.

I think she did a remarkable job. Who cares about the time - she has shamed the Saudi's and inspired a lot of woman in her home country. Let's hope they are driving soon and reforming that place.

Saudi official: "I don't like the idea of our women running in the Olympics....... wait! I've got an idea! Let's select a really useless one, then next time we can use her performance as evidence that our women aren't ready to compete yet........ no need to send any of them next time.......!!!"

The Women's team played well and did themselves proud. They played their games fairly and in particular didn't overcook their reaction when fouled.
The Men's GB football team? - not impressed either by their performance or their attitude.
Taking the response to a 'physical challenge' - the form seems to be to roll over on the ground at least for 3 rotations in 'agony' followed by/accompanied with putting both hands up to the face (until they get a free kick). Compare this to the physical challenge of at least on tackle in a game of Rugby League.
I have a friend who is a physio. She pointed out that, if the challenge was a bad as made out, they wouldn't be able to roll on the ground but would be still and screaming in agony. Shameful and pathetic.

Any injury that demands a full stoppage of play should be serious enough for the player to be taken off the field of play for a medical checkup and not return for 5-10 minutes. Taken off on a stretcher means they cannot return for the duration of the game. Worst form is seeing a player stretchered off and then jump off the stretcher at the sideline.

Classic from Twitter:
Piers Morgan:
" I was disappointed @bradleywiggins didn't sing the national anthem either. Show our monarch some respect please."
Bradley Wiggins:
"@piersmorgan I was disappointed you didn't go to jail for phone hacking or insider dealing, but there you go, each to his own."

Dead right, Herr Kommandant, for once I agree with you. Mrs O ran the 100/200m for her State and said nothing was greater than the thrill of winning.

Not the most fashionable Olympic sport perhaps, but the best basketball game I've ever seen at any Olympics has seen the USA drawing on all of their considerable skills to come from behind to beat a brilliant Australian team.
Superb skills on show, including the amazing Lauren Jackson of Australia............. yes, that's right - women's basketball.

As I've rather viciously slagged off Irish priests (hardly a difficult target) in another thread, let me balance the scale by drawing attention to the one who is behind (stop it) the astonishing world-record smashing David Rudisha:

I've heard Brother O'Connell (ok, so not, strictly speaking, a priest) interviewed on RTE radio also and he really comes across as a genuinely humble and decent man. There are a few.
