Re: News about the news
My thought was a fit of rage, not pre-meditated, probably not intentional... It was the husband who called the police according to AB. You would think there must be something for AB to have gone so strongly. Also, the Gulf News site earlier did have a picture of the wife over a statement of sympathy from the current editor with no mention of the husband's detention. But it seems now even that has been removed. The National is just being too coy by half though.
And that's the defence they're using.

Surely they won't give a long standing member of the Expat community and a Brit at that, the death penalty???

Re: News about the news
I find it very strange that the defence lawyer is Al Shamsi, and the Judge is Al Shamsi....plus he gave the defendant 10 mins to have hugs an kisses with his family in the court............no call me a cynic but i reckon he will get off with a suspended sentence!!
And the next guy walking into court thinking what a nice judge, murder suspended sentence......yes your honour I gave him the finger....ok 10 years take him down!!!!

Re: News about the news
I remember this a few years back
BBC News - UAE sheikh cleared in videoed torture case
We had a sweepstake as to how the UAE legal system would contrive a way to find him innocent.
My money was on "replaced by evil robot from the future". Turned out, the poor sheikh was drugged by some kind of conspiracy and made to enthusiastically torture a former business associate he'd fallen out with.
It's great to know the legal system is able to protect the innocent like this poor sheikh and that guy who murdered (sorry, accidentally caused the death of while insane) his wife.
I trust the legal system will preserve its ire for the real criminals. People who flick the Vs while driving, or lose their job and can't pay the mortgage.

Re: News about the news
She and Herve will never be seen again, the boat they were on will have sunk, or maybe pirates killed them?
Let's see.
Let's see.

Re: News about the news
There's a massive reddit thread about the missing princess.
https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/c...eikh_mohammed/
Near the top is the following comment. I call bullshit. You?
We build floating attractions and sent one of them to a Hilton in Dubai. We always have to send a technician to be sure the boats are assembled correctly.
Our technician was pulled from his hotel at 2am by 4 guys and driven out to the middle of the desert so that the purchaser could go over the items he wasnt happy with. He mentioned laughingly that he could stop him from leaving until everything was up to his liking.
The next day our techs phone was locked to where he could not call us or anyone else. Luckily everything worked out and he came home but we will never again send a technician to that country.

Re: News about the news
So he got 10 years and deport (out in 18 months).
Just been announced on LBC too.
As for the other one, well it would appear we can't talk about.
