Scarborough is a beach suburb of Perth (wouldn't actually swim there anymore, too many shark attacks in Aus lately). Perth beaches are mostly pretty nice. It used to be one of the rougher beach suburbs in the old days, but is now a sought after place to live.

We're originally from Perth, spent ten years in Brisbane, that's where all the kids were born. Went back to Perth in January for eight months and then Dubai in August. We were living in Como and kids went to school and husband worked in South Perth so didn't leave that area much. I did go to a couple of my old haunts in East Perth to show my kids and found them replaced with the new East Perth, I was actually quite impressed.

Cottelsoe is lovely - spent a lot of time at North Cott as a teenager. We took the kids down a few times when we were home (but only ankle deep - have you worked out I've got shark paranoia in my old age - there was another attack yesterday in Northern NSW).

If he is young and likes to surf and chase young ladies he will be happy....good bus service on scarborough Beach Rd into the city, a few backpacker places and Perth's only high-rise on the beach, Observation City (eyesore unfortunately)
