Any decent films on right now?
Jason Bourne - utter shite.
Have high hopes for Suicide Squad.

Re: Movies
Movies have turned rubbish to be honest, i only go to see the blockbusters now. It's all the same bland films, its why (moving to gaming) Battlefield 1 has so much promise its going to a new direction in WW1.
Now i am one of the biggest comic book geeks out there, but even i am sick of all the DC + Marvel Films now, its nothing new. (Though Deadpool & Dredd 3D are a strong 9/10)

Have you seen Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Or Midnight Special? I enjoyed both of those recently. The latter may be a bit slow for you though.
Or try the Netflix series Stranger Things.

Or Grimsby, the latest Sacha Baron Cohen film. That's download only here.
Watched it as a friend was the art director by it is certainly "grim" in parts. Very boys' humour and not for the easily offended!

Re: Movies
I haven't been to the cinema in ages.
Someone leaving Dubai gave me a huge collection of DVD sets, mostly BBC. Been watching through them slowly. Just finished Hornblower, it was excellent. Am on the Jeremy Brett Holmes series now, which is perfect as they're only 50 minutes long and that's about as long as my attention span can last before I need to do something active.
It's fascinating to see how films have changed in the last 20 years. The emphasis today is on faster pace, rapid dialogue, much shorter scenes but many more of them. A reflection of changing attention spans due to technologies?

Re: Movies
you've missed it in the cinema, but The Martian was outstanding, probably the most recent movie I've watched. For TV shows, BBC did a 6 part show called The Night Manager which I thought was outstanding. We've watched the first two episodes of the Containment which looks OK aswell.
Also think Suicide Squad is going to be good.

Re: Movies
I have not see the Sharpe series nor do I have the DVDs.
Hornblower didn't have a finale. The book series goes on forever and there were plans to make more Hornblower episodes but they never did. Bit of a shame because they were excellent. I really enjoyed them, I found them surprisingly realistic about the time period (the class divide is real and present, but not only that you also understand why there was one to begin with) as well as the military mentality and approach to death. The battle scenes were fantastic and you realise that in the military in those days you had to accept death as a fact of life and be prepared for good mates to be killed but life must go on.
That Master and Commander film that came out some years ago was beautiful to watch but Hornblower has the real-life nitty gritty that makes it much more believable despite an obviously smaller budget.
How does Sharpe compare to Hornblower?
