Re: Meet Up?
Went to Spice & Ice Friday afternoon (again with a BOGOF, obviously). FYI, drinks: good. Starters: good. Mains: vile. Waitress: surly. She wasn't shy with the booze so all was forgiven.
Our friends then dragged us to McGettigan's JLT. Not our favourite place but, bloody hell, never done so much people watching. Twas like watching a Primark fashion show.

Re: Meet Up?
Last year you could brunch and drink all day.
This year won't be any different. Some places might not serve until evening but there will be more options open as normal.

Re: Meet Up?
Hope I'm wrong. Leaving the office at 3.30 then a 5 minute walk to Harvesters sounds like a good idea

Re: Meet Up?
Not all bars were allowed to open, and some bars/restaurants without any sport on were told they could serve.

Re: Meet Up?
What I was told was that the government just didn't announce anything, so many carried on as normal and many panicked and shut up shop until evening anyway.

Not sure about the "gov didn't announce" Scampie. My local bar on the Palm was sent a message on the first day of Ramadan telling them a few rules for serving during Ramadan (Start at 4pm, no drinking outside before sunset, no TVs etc). They had previously not spoken to the authorities and were expecting usual Ramadan restrictions. The bar is owned by Nakheel Hospitality and not sure if that makes them different.

Others weren't told anything until last minute and were assuming same as usual. Which I guess is why so many (like us) were surprised when you could go and drink all day and night at McGetts for exmaple.
Bizarre. Expect more of the same this year.

Re: Meet Up?
As far as I remember little to no one was expecting anything other than the norm and then a few found out and applied for a licence / removal of the restrictions..... then pretty much everyone did it.
Think it had F All to do with the Euros, more that they lose a shed load of cash.
Expect this year to be much the same as last (if not better).
RAK hotels have been ignoring Ramadan for years.
