Check out with British Community Library which is in British Consulate, near rhe Bilad Hotel. This is a better library than many municipal libraries in the UK, and a useful contact point. The other place I recommend is The Italian Club in Baghdadiyah. Open to Italians and other EU nationalities. Great if you do not live on a compound. Good sports and social facilities.

Drop me a PM if you want and I'll give you a few pointers.
Italian is ok, but tiny drinks measures from a very stingy Eritrean bar tender. Place of last resort.

I was not suggesting the Italian Club as a venue for the consumption of alcoholic beverages ! Good place for tennis. Good swimming pool and bridge club.

I've clearly been here too long, it tends to be the only yardstick by which I measure any expat event.
