What's next, come around your house and fine you for having a glass of water?

Strange how you can wander the streets in other Islamic countries (Turkey and Eygpt come to mind) munching and drinking and smoking to your heart's content during ramadan...

Legally they are. They are a secular state (courtesy of Ataturk), but some 98% of the population are Muslim.

IMO religion & state should be separate. Politics and religion is too often treated as the same thing.

...Islam is really little more than 6th Century Arabian cultural imperialism. Turkey is a Muslim state and although many Turks are not half as extreme or literal in their interpretation of Islam as their neighbours to the south and east they are Muslims nonetheless.
