has anyone else heard the rumour about dubai?
On the plane y'day i overheard the following: that construction had been pulled on the airport and the second palm. AD is apparantly having to bail them out but they are in deeeeeeep.
Of course, could be utterly unsubstantiated, but i thought it would run it past you guys as your fingers are in oh so many pies....

I've heard the same, a friend knows an advisor to the Royals and has it on good authority that apparently the ruler has applied for a $200 Billion Dollar loan because of this, they are in deep.

Forget the rumour - consider the FACT...........
Dubai cannot borrow money. Period. End of. Nobody will lend to them.
Why? Simple - because, with the recent credit crunch/crisis/squeeze still hurting, lenders are only lending to borrowers from whom they have a reasonable chance of seeing their money again........

It's called "ADIA", and it has good reason to want Dubai in their pockets, instead of building a city themselves, they could just buy it for cheap ready-made!

They could always just print some more money, increasing inflation or the government could issue some very attractive bonds to get investors interested (as long as the rate of return isn't too good or all those people with other holdings will sell triggering a price collapse). Some new taxes?

What do you think the mid term and long term prognosis are?
Personally, I find the empty buildings being held to raise prices a prefect example of how morally corrupt the place is. Especially, when you consider how labour is treated in order for them to be built. However, despite that affecting my sensibilities, i suspect that it would not be the top echelons effected by the drama but the poor sods below (again!).
