Re: Firearms dubai
Hi,
Hopefully I will be coming to live in dubai with my wife and work as an anaesthetist.
I am a keen shooter in the UK ( have all the relevant police and home office approval etc) and was hoping to continue shooting in dubai.
My research has shown that dubai and the surrounding area doesnt have much in the way of shooting clubs. Jebel ali shooting club doesnt cater for rifles and id like to shoot from 100-1000yards.
I am postulating building a shooting range out in the sand somewhere that not only I can shoot at but run as a side buisiness.
Can anyone advise me on UAE firearms law? i.e. can a non UAE national obtain a license? what calibres are permitted? any restrictions on semi-automatic rifles etc?
many thanks in advance,

Non-nationals cannot own a firearm in the UAE. You may only bring a firearm into the country if you are a competition shooter and are invited to do so. One of our friends is an olympic trap shooter and a close friend of HH Sheik Ahmed bin Hasher al Maktoum (Athens Gold Medallist), and it still took him three hours to get his shotgun through customs, and he was not allowed to transport it himself.
Shooting ranges are similarly restricted, unless you have a great deal of wasta and know people who go by "Your Highness", you'll probably not be able to have a shooting range as a side business.
Ranges here are also very expensive. Best advice would be to store your firearms at home, and save up your pennies for shooting trips away from the UAE.

Their Hignesses don't have any choice but to hunt elsewhere! It's been banned in the UAE by Federal law, not that there's much out there to hunt anyway. I'm willing to bet that all such HHs take their own hunting rifles and shotguns when after deer or pheasants in the west, and have no problem getting a UK visitor's firearms permit, or completing a Canadian non-resident firearms declaration. They just won't allow anyone to do the same when heading to the UAE.

How about joining/working for their army as a military Doctor, you might be able to 'influence' the firearms permit as a senior officer (which you should be as doctor)
if you cant get a permit, you can use their military ranges? win win?
