Not going to happen, Etihad, or rather AD Gov own a part on Emirates, if anything Etihad will take over Emirates.

Mad. The only reason I can think of for the huge discrepancies is that they charge what they think the local market will bear?

I think you've just re-stated the true value of anything.

Emirates has the globally known name so they'd be mad not to run with that though.

Yeah, very true. I always have a return to LHR because originating in London is cheaper than Dubai.

Emirates sometimes just take the piss.

Etihad - Emirates Airlines
Emirates - Etihad Airlines
Etirates Airlines
Emirhad Airlines

TBH Emirates sounds better and makes more sense than Etihad and also is a better known brand worldwide.

But Etihad means Union in Arabic. If anyone runs a book, I'd bet on Etihad Emirates with Emirates colors and then Emirates name dropping after a few years.

I don't think that it's a simple direct translation though as I heard a lot of piss taking when Sheikh Mansoor took over at Manchester City as it 'could' be translated to 'United', which obviously amused the Manchester United fans.

Emirates as a brand is mahooosive though. You can't turn your head in most countries without stumbling across something that they are sponsoring. Far far bigger and better known that Etihad.

Reminds me of when British Airways and British Caledonian "merged" way back when. The decision was taken to keep the 'British' from British Caledonian and the 'Airways' from British Airways Things have been going steadily downhill ever since.

i was invited round to dinner at a mate's place last night and they had other people there, one of them was a female Japanese cabin crew worker for emirates....she said the worse passengers are the brits, arabs & americans....she said she hates doing the dubai-london-dubai flights because the brits order alcohol as if it's going out of fashion and they think because they are flying emirates (and even though are in economy class) they feel they are 'entitled' to get bladdered on the free booze.
She was telling us incidents of passengers literally pi**ing themselves in the seat (from having drunk too much).....or ending up pi**sing themselves in their trousers when they haven't been quick enough to get to the toilet.

Emirates are so expensive and so poor in relation to the standard of service they used to provide I think a lot of the Emirates crowd should wind their neck in a bit. Not excusing drunk Brits pissing themselves (although I've never seen any drama on a DXB - UK flight in over a decade) but they do see themselves as superior for some unknown reason.

Been looking at flights today as I have a funeral to go to on the second weekend in May (long delay I agree). Flying into Manchester. Out on a Thurs and back in on the Sun.

Emirates 5,890
BA (Economy) 2,710
BA (Premium Economy) 3,730
KLM 2,220

Emirates is direct while the others have a stop over but still..... That's only because its Manchester and is a HUGE difference. Its 1,250 GBP FFS..... for a flight!!
