Dubai plans to build a tower that will stand higher than its Burj Khalifa, currently the world's tallest skyscraper, property developer Emaar said on Sunday.

There is a very close coloration between a large recession and the delivery/announcement of a tower.




This tower seems too late to be announced. It will be the Jeddah Tower that breaks the camels back this time.:

Delivery makes sense. They're the peak of a boom. Announcement doesn't, but then I don't know which of these are announced or delivered....

The one in Jeddah is moving, slowly. It's a tough one for sure.

Generally, they get announced near the peak of the boom, and delivered into the recession. Deffo was the case for the Burj (delivered into 2010 recession - peak was 2007) and Canary Warf (1980s not shown here).

Looking at that chart shows just how mental the Chrysler and Empire State towers were for the time.
