One of the best inventions ever. Also excellent as an iPad stand when your cameras not on it, particularly on an aircraft. Up there with the Dyson, Rubiks Cube, condoms, the wheel, railways, the compass, concrete and bacon soap.

Was lucky enough to stay at Al Maha (desert hotel in Dubai) some years ago. There was a group of eight Japanese tourists there at the same time. I don’t think thay actually ‘saw’ anything while they were there as they all spent their time with their eyes glued to the lenses of their camcorders. Likewise people these days with ‘selfies’. They’re not in the least bit interested in the object they’re photographing, only in how good they themselves look in front of it.

The last time I was in Paris I popped into the Lourve and decided to pay quick respects to the Lady Mona and when I entered the gallery there was about 200 people crowded in front of the painting and just about all of them had their mobiles and even iPads aloft to try to take a picture of it, so no one could actually see the damn painting!

Exactly. Many a Millhouse holiday was ruined by my dad (a professional photographer at the time) taking pictures. Nothing worse than waiting for him to **** about with the Hasselblad or whatever it was called when you just wanted to get an ice cream. All for a picture that ended up in a book to never be seen again.

I'm awful at taking pictures, not as in the composition or whatever as I occasionally get a cracker but more in the remembering to take any. Many a time I have got back from a trip and realised I have less than 10 pics on my phone.... screw taking an actual camera, its not 1990. To be honest though I actually like that I am seeing the sights with my eyes and not through a lense as I can pretty much guarantee that I'd never look at the pics again or print them out.... Maybe that would change if I had my own house etc but I'm not convinced.

What's more, I hate at weddings, people turning up with big DSLRs and whatnot. There's a ****ing professional for that you noddy.

Haha. The pro wedding togs have a name for them...Uncle Bobs. I took a DSLR to my brother's wedding 3 years ago, but I was asked to...and I kept out of the way of the proper one (mostly).

I dive occasionally and was given a GoPro one Christmas. Great I thought, got right into it and even bought some extra kit. Then I realised that YouTube doesn't need anymore 4 minute amateur video with 50 views, regardless of the editing tutorials I put myself through.
This was emphasised by the fact that when you do some proper tourist diving, Eygpt, Bali etc there's a good chance there's going to be a pro or semi-pro with the proper gear on the same dives as you with excellent YouTube channels you can email people with.
