This is clearly an attempt by the author to highlight the anomaly between the constant striving of non-white working-class immigrants to achieve middle-class status, and the realisation that, when all's said and done, black people are only ever categorised and classified by the archetypal white indigenous middle classes in terms of the purported dancing ability of their negro ancestors................
