Default Clarkson..love him or hate him???

Not seen anyone commenting on the latest upset with Jeremy Clarkson, what do we all think is he a jumped up prat or a free thinking, saying it as it is sort of bloke????

He's an entertainer, who uses his personality in a largely-unfettered manner. It all comes down to whether or not you like his personality. I do.

I think he is a paid TV presenter, bit of a one trick pony. I do not understand why the PM took time to talk about the 'incident', surely there are important things to be doing than a couple of guys having a handbag tiff.

I am largely indifferent. I watch Top Gear but hope that much of his screen persona is an act designed to appeal to the unreconstructed bloke in the street. Surely a lot of what is said is to get a reaction, make people laugh and isn't to be taken as seriously as it appears to be?

It's just entertainment, albeit hugely money-generating, but this incident is getting a ridiculous amount of coverage. And now I have contributed to it.

...
Exactly, and that's exactly his character.

Many people say things just to get a reaction, although usually there's a semblance of accord between what's said and what's really thought. As on here.

Agreed. He's a caricature, much like Al Murray. Has to be taken with a large pinch of salt. The only problem is, many take him as a voice for the poor down-trodden Middle-Class, Middle-Aged White Man.

OK just to expand it a bit, what are the thoughts on the BBC sacking him, is it because they are a bunch of corrupt, anal, champagne socialists, or are they duty bound to get rid (not that Clarkson would mind as it would mean others lining up cheque books in hand and an ensuing bidding war which will work in his favour), tricky one I know (tongue firmly in cheek!!

A) He's been suspended, not sacked.

B) "corrupt champagne socialists" - that's your opinion not a statement of fact.

C) If he did punch someone that is unacceptable behaviour in any work place. What would you expect to happen if one of your colleagues punched you?

Correct, but it is only a matter of time before he is sacked, in my opinion!

Given their track record over the last few years I would say it is spot on, and yes again it is my opinion, we are entitled to one!

Yes I agree it is unacceptable behavior, and something no-one should get away with....but please take my comments in context as I did finish with the statement 'TONGUE FIRMLY IN MY CHEEK"

It was meant to get a reaction....just to gee things up a bit on here as it has been a tad boring lately!!

Nah! They're too left wing for Clarkson!

If you actually read some of his journalism, you'll find that he thinks he is a parody of who he really is, and frequently describes himself as the presenter of an inconcequential show on BBC2.

You do have to wonder if the recent contract renewals were not to his liking and he decided to stir the pot to see what else is on offer. Despite what people have said,Jeremy Clarkson IS Top Gear, with the other two just barking cats.

It has been rumoured that Chris Evans might take over. This is a combination as appealling as Bailey's and lime juice. Chris Evans believes himself equal to the job, but in fact is an irritating gob shite who knows slightly less that zilch.

While I think some of his comments are nasty, that isn't why I think he is past his sell by date. His un-PC comments are to compensate for a show that emulates , to its detriment, a reality TV script. Much like how movies overdo the CGI to compensate for a poor storyline.

I find him mediocre as a presenter and a bit of a prick but Top Gear is a decent programme but i believe it needs a rethink , it has a massive budget but brings in excellent figures and revenue for the BBC .

I do like the way he constantly pushes the PC brigade and it's obvious that a large section of his employers want him sacked as he just doesnt fit the mould.

A personal friend of Mr Cameron and Rebekah Brooks and fellow constituent of Chipping Norton , he doesnt realise the irony that he's part of the establishment and a rotten one at that !

Mirror is reporting that Clarkson called producer Oisin Tymon a "Lazy Irish c###" , in addition to punching Tymon.

Telegraph just says "Lazy Irish".

Jeremy Clarkson 'punched producer and called him lazy Irish' - Telegraph

Jeremy Clarkson hints it may be time for him to leave Top Gear

I wonder if the Beeb will forget about their warning of no more racial remarks and keep Clarkson because he brings in the dosh. Wouldn't surprise me if they did.

I soured on TP when they started with all the contrived drama . Back in the old days it was about cars -and even when they went on trips, like the Iceland episode, it never came across as contrived reality TV drama.

Jay Leno has motoring program he produces every week on a particular car. It's a pretty decent program for how short it is and it being just a fun side project of Jay's.
