Singapore rents are skewed by HDB rents. If you compare like by like Singapore rents are far higher than Dubai.

Presumably those percentages are measured against natives' salaries rather than expats'.

Surprised Doha isn't in there too. Rents keep going up even as compounds are lying empty awaiting someone who will pay the asking price.

So hard to work out.
Dubai average salary including lowest paid and highest must still be quite low.

Funny numbers. Trying to get accurate statistics out of Dubai or the UAE in general is going to be nigh impossible for reasons including the one you just listed.
Read not long ago in the National that 1/3 of housing units in AD are empty.

What I like about these charts that I regularly post here (I do not prepare them) - is that everyone gets so caught up in the details and potential irregularities that they fail to see the overall trend.
Imagine living in Beijing where the average person needs to have two incomes to cover the rent. London looks about right at 50% of average salary, I suspect Dubai is also pretty close, as is AD.
The data errors will be largely common to all cities, think of those in the UK not earning official income? Or sharing slum-landlord accommodation? No city is immune. I still don't want to live in Paris though.
Let's not not forget that Dubai is all expat.

So what is the overall trend you refer to? Chinese cities becoming more expensive?

Re: Cities Where Rent Swallows Your Salary
The list is too small to identify a trend from. Chinese has 50 mega-cities, so with just 3 identified its impossible to draw any conclusions about China, or any other countries. Its a bit meaningless, really, except in relation to the listed cities.

With the exception of a couple of distinct financial centre hubs, one could draw the conclusion that life in the emerging markets is tough for its people.

Either i can't use a search engine with any nous (entirely possible) or it has been removed (also, entirely possible).
