Car stealers and the local economy

Car stealers and the local economy
I've been hunting around dubizzle and talking to used car salesmen.
Had an honest chat with one small dealer - he operates out of a car park, has around 7 cars at a time, so around 200,000dh invested in stock.
He said... December and January were "very bad" ... "worst ever". And I was very lucky to offload my mid-life crisis machine for what I got for it.
I'm also hearing frequent stories now of people leaving and increasing redundancies - especially in retail.

Car thieves?
Abu Dhabi is even worse, in the 2 years I was there the traffic dropped to nothing, cabs were easy to catch, a beer war is taking place (AED13 a pint at Mercure during happy hour), also the amount of whites face showed steady decline over that time.
Worrying times for the economy and not helped with the power struggle at the very top of the gov.

Re: Car stealers and the local economy
Doha is dead.
Two years ago: impossible to get a taxi during rush hour. Now taxis are all over the place.
I have several coworkers who share flats and they're struggling to find new flatmates to replace the ones who've left Qatar. A year ago they would get multiple dozens of inquiries if they advertised a room.
Car market is similarly dead. What's the point of buying a car now that taxis are so freely available, taxi fare is cheap and there's also careem and uber.
Rents have dropped substantially and continue to fall.
I'll say regarding Dubai/UAE that this time last year I was getting contacted regularly by recruiters but this year they've been strangely quiet and we thought last year was tough enough!
Have no idea what's going to happen to the local economy this year. My particular projects are safe enough.

Rose and Crown in the Atrium at teh Habtoor City does an unbelievable pork bacon cheeseburger for 25dhs on a Monday night.
I had it on Friday and it's very, very good. At 95dhs it's tolerable / palatable but at 25dhs I'd buy two just for shits and giggles.

What sort of onion rings?
I don't like posh ones, where the whole onion slides out of very greasy fresh batter.
I like the cheap and nasty ones.

What I don't like are the "birds nest' ones - i.e. it's not a ring, but basically shreds of onions that are battered and fried.

I guess the economy isn't that dead after all
Anyone ever have that awful blooming onion you find in America? I had it once. An entire deep fried onion. You pulled off the rings one by one to eat it. Very greasy. Can't remember who served it but it was one of the big chains.
