So my car reg is due for renewal come 18/09 which means I have to renew my car insurance.


I'm currently with Zurich and paid aed 5,248, the b*sta r d s just sent me a renewal quote for frigging 6,088
any recommendations for a decent car insurance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I found renewing wasn't cheaper. I used the link Millhouse has shared to find it cheaper with better cover.

Probably have to do the same dance again next year.

I don't think it's a hidden tax as such, just the greed that is endemic here. EG. The apartments that are left empty because the landlords (Arabs/Indians), won't take a lower rent because that de-values their property.

They often don't get that 100,000 (for example) in the pocket is better than 110,000 not in the pocket for 2 months, maybe longer, maybe ends up being 3 months and 105,000 so really is 3 months of lost rent which would have been 25,000. But nevermind. They got someone to pay more.

RSA for years. Never had to claim so no idea if they are decent or not, but at least they didn't up the premium on me. The only issue I had was every renewal I had to argue the value of the car down.

I want the car to be insured at 15% dep'cn which makes the valuation AED 208k. I also want the full bells and whistles cover so I am covered for all eventualities - maybe this is why the premium is so high?

You probably won't get it much under 2.5%

I've been paying approx 2500 for a car with a value of 120K so that's probably not so far off. I did not take them up on some of the more stupid (and costly extras) like hire car (only covers a 7 day rental usually) though.

premiums are based on a percentage of value. there is no risk element involved in the calculations here like in the UK
