Bigtaff- my middle name is Elizabeth as well so even posher- hate it! I'd prefer Betty.

One of my mates is called Del- I thought that was his real name until I went to his wedding- when the minister was saying do you Paul take this woman- I was like who the hell is Paul. Turns out as his brother is called Rodney, so kids called him Delboy from the age of about 5 and it stuck!

Also another mate called Pid- never even questioned where it was from- his real name is Stuart- so stu-pid shortened to Pid...

I've mentioned this before, but in the UK we had a client called Mick Chicken, now his name was obviously Michael but he caleld himself Mick. The dumbo.
Not as bad as using the other diminutive of Michael if your surname's Hunt, though.

Remember that US singer-songwriter Randy Vanwarmer? (You can Google him if you don't believe me).

He did OK, but I assumed that was the "Boy Named Sue" principle...........

The "Mike Hunt" thing cropped up on a TV cricket commentary, because that is the name of the head groundsman at Lord's cricket ground.

The camera picked him out, and the commentator (Dermot Reeve, I think) told the watching audience:

"There's the groundsman Michael Hunt ..... [pause] ...... as he prefers to be known......"

Yep. I seem to remember a scene where a waitress is wound up by getting her to shout to al fresco diners, "Has anyone seen Mike Hunt?".
