Bigtaff- my middle name is Elizabeth as well so even posher- hate it! I'd prefer Betty.
One of my mates is called Del- I thought that was his real name until I went to his wedding- when the minister was saying do you Paul take this woman- I was like who the hell is Paul. Turns out as his brother is called Rodney, so kids called him Delboy from the age of about 5 and it stuck!
Also another mate called Pid- never even questioned where it was from- his real name is Stuart- so stu-pid shortened to Pid...

Not as bad as using the other diminutive of Michael if your surname's Hunt, though.

He did OK, but I assumed that was the "Boy Named Sue" principle...........
The "Mike Hunt" thing cropped up on a TV cricket commentary, because that is the name of the head groundsman at Lord's cricket ground.
The camera picked him out, and the commentator (Dermot Reeve, I think) told the watching audience:
"There's the groundsman Michael Hunt ..... [pause] ...... as he prefers to be known......"
