May be I should rephrase that - most citizens will be affected....it is sad when people either retired those who are close to retirement will now see most of their savings wiped out in the stock market.

Don't pension schemes usually diversify, mix and move towards more stable investments over time as the date when someone is expected to start drawing from it approaches? You know, reduce the beta value and all that tosh?
