Re: Bobby Robson
Very sad news indeed.
My most vivid memory of him? After England lost the semi-final penalty shoot-out in the 1990 WC, he went round and shook the hand of every German player. They were genuinely touched by the gesture (Rudi Voeller gave him a big hug), and they all reciprocated when he collected England's Fair Play Trophy after the final.
Lovely lovely man.

Re: Bobby Robson
Nice tribute this morning from the always excellent Henry Winter. I particularly liked this:
Just consider this cameo. At France 98, the celebrated striker Ronaldo, whose goals were the talk of the tournament, entered a room heaving with footballing luminaries, all eager to bask in his glory. Ronaldo ignored all bar one. He headed straight to Robson, his old mentor at PSV Eindhoven, embraced him, exchanged some words and then slipped out into the night.

Re: Bobby Robson
I was lucky enough to meet Bobby Robson when I was about 8 or 9 years old in an airport in Florida during the early 80s. Ipswich were playing a friendly tournament during the summer break, I think Robson had already been appointed as England manager.
Me and my brother got autographs from Bobby Robson and some of the players (I can remember Paul Mariner and Russell Osman, maybe Eric Gates too I think). My parents ended up chatting to Bobby Robson too for 10 or 15 minutes, and my mum's not even a football fan.
He really was the nicest bloke you could meet, will never be forgotten.
RIP
