What an awful punishment to have to avoid all those wonderful Westerm airlines (United, Delta, Lufthansa, KLM, Ryanair, Alitalia, Iberia, American...) and have to settle for the likes of Singapore, Cathay, Emirates, ANA, Qatar, Thai....

Hadn't actually looked at it like that, but now you come to mention it... Good western airlines? BA (but haven't flown with them for a long time), Finnair (courtesy and Helsinki aiport makes up to some extent for old fleet), er...that's it

Air France was great last time I flew it, BA was dire. Though they did serve a good Chilean Malbec which helped things along.

There's some strange comments coming out about this (albeit they may be out of context):

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters, who Prosser said had not seen the column before it was published, said the MP had made a "mistake" but that he would not be stood down.

"It's an extremist view on an extreme circumstance in the world's security at this time, but you can't generalise, you cant lump everyone in the same boat," Peters said.

"People make mistakes. This is a mistake."

But Peters said "there is an element of truth to what he is saying".

But Mr Peters says he doesn't think his MP is racist by using the term Wogistan.

"That phrase came from a media specialist in the National Business Reviee back in the Wine Box days.

"If the media is racist, then maybe it is, but I don't think it was. It was a mythical place a long time ago in the article I'm talking about."

New Zealand First MP Richard Prosser has been forced into a backdown and now says comments he made about Muslims were not balanced.

Prosser, 45, has previously made no apology for the strength of the controversial ideas he has been pushing for almost 10 years.

In 2011, he called for the burqa to be banned, while he also wanted bank tellers, dairy owners and taxi drivers to be armed.

That kind of language is more acceptable among Australians. I remember asking one of the other (very well-to-do Australian) mum's at our kids' posh private school in London where she thought X teacher was from. "Ah, some kind of wog" she said. I have never forgotten that. I confronted her and she said it was normal to use that word in Oz. Alas, forward a few years and my Aussie husband has confirmed it, although he would never use the word himself. Not now, anyway.

Although I understand localised dialect and some words not being 'offensive' in a certain community or nation etc...it kind of doesn't make it alright.

I call people ***** all the time. I know it's not right, just because I think the word is fine it doesn't mean I'll start chucking it around willy-nilly.
