iPhone without doubt then.

My Gran just got one and has mastered it.

Everyone who says Samsung / HTC / other bollocks are those new-age, different, I think I'm better than you because I work in advertising types....when really, nothing can compete with the iphone.

Solved.

In fact, the only thing that comes close to the iPhone is Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 devices – in particular, the Nokia one.

However, it's not really available over here because WP7 doesn't support Arabic at the moment. And the number of apps are pitiful, but it's the only OS that comes near iOS for usability.

So I'd say go with the iPhone 4s. I got mine through JadoPado. Came with Facetime (which the ones you buy through Du/Etishitalat won't), and was delivered within 24 hours (ordered late that the night before, was delivered by 1pm the next day).

Siri is awesome btw (the voice command system).

Samsung S3 - much more user-friendly, open architecture, bigger screen

I use my iphone to play music on a docking station, that's it. When I lost my last blackberry I used it for a week and it sent me insane. I have blackberry torch which plays all my iphone music infact it does everything an iphone does and its sn excellent work tool.

Good point.

iOS6 is released Octoberish and no doubt that will be coupled with a new iPhone '5'....you'll be able to upgrade to the new system but if you can wait until the Autumn it might be worth it, even if you just then buy the 4s cheaper.

samsung s2 or s3 , user friendly and none of the silly stuff. not tied to any app stores, easy connectivity with blue tooth, usb cable etc just a better all round package.
I have had both (apple and samsung) and from use this is my preferred one. Better battery life also.

The only thing that is true, or not irrelevant for someone like Kitty is the bigger screen.

There is not a single Android phone that is more user friendly than iOS or Windows Phone 7.

And open architecture? Only geeks (and I mean really big geeks) care about that.

The fact it's not tied to an app store is a nightmare. There's no quality control, and what's more, for a non-techie, it's a security risk. The amount of viruses on Android phones are all due to the open architecture and open app store approach.

Just install AVG free, anti-virus if this is a worry. It took me 30 seconds to do this and use google play if you want quality control on apps.

Not terribly difficult really.
