Like what? the bouncer, who you would assume is impartial, supports what he said.

Employers will often drop employees as soon as they are in trouble/arrested in Dubai.

There could be more, but that would be an assumption based on subjective opinion.

There probably is more. I'm guessing he pissed off the police. Argumentative? Resisting arrest? Threw up on one? Stuff like that gets you in far more trouble than he said/he said situations in drunken bars.

Jordanians don't have wasta. Police aren't going to waste time with something like this story of hands on hips in a crowded bar. But if you piss off the police that's a different story.

Yes, correct. My subjective opinion is that young testosterone and alcohol filled male (and female?) Brits, are likely to switch to 'UK mode' in a situation like this and abuse the police/swear..... and then [email protected] themselves when they find themselves being looked at lovingly by a sweaty Pattan (am I allowed to say that?) in a police cell

Exactly what the other guy has said (DXB-DOH)

They would not have thrown him in jail without a good reason, and pissing a jordanian off is not that!!

Scot faces 3 years in Dubai jail after touching man's hip 'to avoid spilling drink' | The National

same story, different paper. Why go to the UAE and spend your time in bars ? I think a lot of those visitors and migrant workers in the Gulf are totally out of their depth.

Dubaiexile is saying (and correct me if I'm wrong in interpreting your point) that Jordanians don't have the kind of sway where you can go to jail for irritating one. On that, he is correct.

More interestingly to me - why was this Jordanian at a bar? A Muslim who is caught drinking in the UAE can get lashings.

I do agree with the others that there is more to this. While as others have mentioned, being crass with the police etc is a possibility, I will throw out a wild-card that perhaps the tourist hit on a girl the Jordanian was interested in and so he made up false allegations to the police (that have gone unreported in the media) or demanded that this "public indecency" be prosecuted as retribution. Then perhaps the Brit didn't do himself any favours with his attitude.

Anyways, I would advise him to (sharia speaking) go after the Jordanian legally, with equal fervor for being in a bar and hitting on women (get those fathers involved) and use that as a bargaining chip to get this guy to back down.

I know that. But the vast majority are - and the article doesn't say - so up to him to prove to the police that he isn't!

I’d also argue that Christian Arabs are very laid back as life experience has taught then to avoid publicity and controversy (and the police). The Jordanian in question is most likely a Muslim.

I don’t think it’s illegal for Muslims to go to bars. It’s only illegal for them to drink alcohol. As long as they’re not boozing they’re not breaking any laws. I’ve seen plenty of Muslims in bars only drinking Coke or Red Bull.

I've heard from a few F&B managers that calling the police is *the* last resort for anything as it impacts badly on the venue and hotel. Fights, paralytic people post brunch they just want you off the premises and gone ASAP. Also, despite the individual punishments the onus on the venue not to serve Muslims and they also receive harsh fines if caught doing so.
