Another 25th anniversary....... for football fans......
Today is the 25th anniversary of "The Greatest Ever Moment" - Raddy Antic's late late goal at Maine Road that saved the boys from relegation - and condemned City instead.
Of course staying up paved the way for all that followed, culminating in the thrilling League Cup win at Wembley against Arsenal in 1988 (and the disappointment of NOT playing in the UEFA Cup due to the post-Heysel ban).
Avoiding relegation also directly brought about all the things that Luton Town later became so widely loved and admired for.....
....... the plastic pitch, the away fans ban, etc, etc........ David Evans, what WERE you thinking?

To this day, he reckons that story was completely fabricated, and planted in the media, by the Spurs chairman (Irving Scholar) who had been alerted to the fact that Venables was going to leave Barcelona.
Pleat had just taken Spurs to the FA Cup final (lost to Coventry), the League Cup semi-final, and third place in the league, so he couldn't fire him for football-related reasons.
He needed another excuse to get rid of him, so........
....... and less than a month later, Venables was installed at WHL.........
