Get a taxi and tell him "Balad. Shara Gabel". Explore the huge market area that goes inland - on the opposite side of the road from the glitzy National Commercial Bank. Stop at the café that sells fresh orange juice. They have a "Family Section" for families and single women. The "general section serves men.

We had two years in Jeddah, and really enjoyed it. Are you on a compound - usually helps in getting to know people.

As and when you manage to sort out some transport, there is a pretty active Hash Harriers club that meet every weekend for trips out into the desert. If you haven't yet done it, it's an excellent place to take up scuba diving too.

You are incorrect, I've traveled to over 50 countries. I wouldn't go to S A. I literally despise the place.

Going to fifty all-inclusive resorts in fifty countries on package tours isn't tantamount to being well-traveled.

No i did the student "GAAAP" year travel as well. Around North America & Asia, living on shoe string.

Plus several hostel trips around Europe. I've never been to an all inclusive resort. Only been to one 5 star hotel in Seychelles (last year).

SA is not a nice place, no one can convince me other wise.
