A question needs to be asked here: if a Christian Brit marries a Muslim, comes home to the UK with their spouse and later divorces, the Brit changes back to Christianity, and then goes to work in a Muslim country are they at risk of arrest?

I know several British men who have converted to marry the one they love, none of them have divorced, but I'll just put that question out there for the sake of understanding.

Well, not speaking from personal experience ofcourse, but I would think that if the man had registered himself as a muslim here i.e. ID Card etc then that means he would be in the system. So if he goes back and changes his religion and travels back, he would definitely show up in the system. Now the question is how, or rather why would they ask him, have you changed back to christianity or not? unless he offers this information himself (which I would think would be the start of a very bad idea / experience)

as far as the news goes, I think it is despicable
was probably an economic decision rather than a faith one if you ask me, what with the husband being dead and so many children

The requird punishment for Apostasy (converting from islam) is to be given 3 days to repent and accept Islam and if not then execution. The World's fastest growing religion !

I met a surprising num,ber of Western males in KSA who has comverted in ordewr to marry Muslim women. Most were non-observant and would not know what happens inside a mosque.

They could at least learn x amount of their new religion. It's kind of an investment of time judging by the way the outcome in many recent hostage situations are dependent on identifying religion.

I wonder which is worse when in such a situation: claiming to be Christian, Jewish,Hindu,Buddhist or Atheist? Me thinks the last one is worst possible answer.

Genocide is a specific and serious term and is diminished by being lightly thrown around. Seriously, exactly how is the treatment of the Copts genocide? The Coptic church is completely complicit in the de-secularisation of Egypt and every bit as obnoxious as their Salafist brothers. Look up some of the inflammatory statements of their recently deceased pope.

Pretty much the same applies to all the churches in the region. The minority religions want to control their own communities and their leaders strike all sorts of heinous deals with the majority powers to enable them to do exactly that. The Western media and governments would do well to avoid aligning themselves with groups often more objectionable than their supposed oppressors.

Free-thinking atheists are the truly endangered which is why you so rarely meet any.

What is happening to the Copts is an extention of centuries old Islamic policy of harassing, driving out or converting Copts .

If Egypt's Islamic majority keep up with pogroms against Copts , there is a real danger of extinction.

Religion is a very strong indentifier of heritage and ancestry and in the case of the Copts their religion is also tied in with their language, a direct descendent of Ancient Egyptian while Arabic being a Semitic language is not part of the Ancient Egyptian/Coptic language group. Already the Coptic language is relegated effectively to liturgical service as Arabic is hegemonic.

Genocide comes in many forms , from outright killing members of X group to cultural genocide that gradually ceases a group's exsistence.
