Saw this in BBC's news website.

Mohamed came to Sheffield from Yemen in January 1960 to work and he cannot get UK visas for his family.

It seems strange that the way the story is told the gentleman cannot bring his family to the UK because he cannot meet the financial requirements.

Prior to 2012 (when the financial requirements came in) he could have applied for his family with little or no financial requirements

He is 85 - one wonders why he did not make the application many years ago when he was earning.

I don't know about the exact time lines but in the video it says that originally there were restrictions on children being allowed to leave Yemen. So his kids couldn't join him and presumably something similar with the grandchildren.

In more recent years it seems (from googling) the cost involved in obtaining passports (including bribes) was beyond most people.
