Orwell Commemoration
George Orwell is buried in the village of Sutton Courtenay near Oxford. Every year, family and friends have a commemotation on the Sunday nearest his birthday. I shall be going there this year, deo volente

And I did go. A nice afternoon. Richard Blair, son of Eric, read a piece by his father about the visit of a Soviet football team to Britain in 1946. Then we had cream teas in the churchyard at Sutton Courtenay.

It is on the Sunday nearest Orwell's date of birth, The purists have a ceremony on the actual date. See the website for The Orwell Society. There are other events too. We hope to have one in Scotland next year.
