The present system is scandalous, and it amazes me that there isn't more public outrage about it. But, I don't have any strong views on what should replace it, or even if it should just be abolished.

The HoL at least twice last year blocked proposed legislation that would have made the vulnerable much worse off, legislation that had been proposed by the Government and passed by the HoCommons because the Tories have a majority there.

We need that kind of checks and balances.
