New EHIC rules.
For those of you that travel to another country without buying health insurance, new EHIC rules from July 2014
If you visit another EEA country where that country requires its own citizens to pay a patient contribution, you will also need to pay this. You will no longer be able to claim reimbursement for this payment when you return to the UK for treatment received after July 1 2014.
You may still be able to claim reimbursements for any co-payments you made for treatment received abroad before July 1 2014.
EHIC - co-payment update - NHS Choices
Remember that the UK EHIC does not cover having you transferred back to UK hospitals; you need private insurance for that.

Re: New EHIC rules.
In France, a doctor has to confirm that you are really in need of an ambulance service, otherwise you’ll have to carry the cost of the ambulance transport.

and you now can't claim that money back from the UK.
Perhaps this is why the UK government now intends to add 25% to the bill of an EU citizen?
