Kidney Dialysis
The Kidney Specialist has advised me that Dialysis is the best solution for my kidney problems. I was offered the choice between peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis. I have opted for the second and the will mean Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the local hospital Kidney Unit. No more exotic travelling for me !
Anyone else on this. I have found a FB pal in Berlin who gets the same and find he has some useful tips.

Yes, a bummer. I'm sorry to hear this. I hope at least that the dialysis keeps you well. Any chance of a kidney transplant?

Other medical "issues" make it unlikely that I will get a transplant. Maybe if I were an alcoholic ex-footballer instead of a reformed alcoholic and ex-teacher !

Is the treatment a permanent fixture, or can your condition improve enough for it to stop or at least be reduced? I don't know anything about these things even though I have one kidney not performing as well as it should.

Unless you go for a transplant, dialysis will be for the rest of your life. Two types - peritoneal, where you use a bag to remove and replace fluid in the abdomen. Other method is hemodialysis, where you are hooked up to a machine which filters the blood for a few hours.
Technique was developed in wartime Netherlands. I knew nothing until I was told I needed the treatment.

Before I get hooked up and have restrictions on travels I am away to that Monument at Glenfinnan. Whether or not I swear Allegiance to Charles Edward Stuart is as yet undecided.

Re: Kidney Dialysis
IF I am going to be hooked up to a machine that siphons off my blood, filters it and returns it into my body, I think I would be happier doing it under close medical supervision. I will get it done in hospital !
