Was this your choice of house to look at, Ezzie? I always feel these reality shows pick things to get the emotional zingers they want. And how long had it been on the market? Some people put a house up for sale at way over a reasonable price and it just sits there.

I found this on the internet. It's about what I want to spend and it looks perfect for what I want. I know the area well and so far this is favourite property mumber 1.

http://details.thinkproperty.com/property/9358/15211975

Since looking on the net, it's amazing how prices vary for the same area.

Well, they don't pay for our return flight if we decide to stay....wish they did though! It might make good tv, but I don't think that it actually is that helpful to us. Left to our own devices, we'd be talking to estate agents ourselves, seeing properties that actually suited us, getting to know the area, the price of shopping, utilities, what's changed in gov't set-ups, education etc, etc. None of this has been done...a reasonable tv program perhaps, but not a real attempt to help with a choice. The whole program is geared up to 'decision day'...like anyone could decide on their future in less than a week whilst jet-lagged.

We're over for the school holidays - hubby is returning in a couple of weeks. Not over jet-lag, or maybe I am but still can't sleep because of everything running through my head. From our own research in the 2 seconds we've had to ourselves....there's no jobs here. It might be that even if we 100% wanted to return, we might not be able to. Then there's ripping our kids away from their friends. Quitely going quite mad here with it all.
quote=cricket1;6979517]So are you staying over there or are you coming back to Oz?
How do you feel now you've got over the jet lag and your brain is functioning fully again?

God, that's quite reasonable isn't it! Looks lovely cricket - do you have to consider schools/....that's our big problem.

No Ezzie, I am so lucky. No kids to consider, just my hubby and myself. Which is why we don't need a big house. I love the garden but I am over cleaning a mansion. :curse:Where abouts are you in the UK? I'll have a look at houses and jobs on the internet in your area just out of interest.

What's the general mood like over there?

So basically, the programme is for entertainment value?

What about considering home-schooling?

We want to be based around the outskirts of Brum. They've got us staying around the Bromsgrove area on a farm in the middle of the countryside...bliss, they may have to evict me. No way could we afford anything around here though. We need 4 beds (of useable size!) and have 250-300,000 max, so you can see it's a bit of a tall order, especially when you consider it has to be near a good school as we have exceptionally bright and talented kids.

The mood over here really is quite depressed...on job search sites haven't found anything in business management around the Brum area...all in home counties, which we really couldn't afford and we really do love the outer Midlands countryside. We stopped an entire Tesco's Express yesterday when they heard we were thinking of coming back from Sydney....lots of offers of house swaps, and they weren't joking either! I must admit it takes some getting used to it being so dark (at midday!) admittedly a lot of the time I'm spending behind tinted glass but it is a gloomy old country. Had cold feet for the first time yesterday...I think it'll be interesting as December sets in, just how much the cold gets to us. Currently, it's quite pleasant and you just need a jumper and light jacket on. The mad thing is...the shops are so heated...and they leave the doors open!

Hubby is in IT management. Looks like those jobs are all around home counties and at a much lower level than is paid in Oz...I haven't even looked at teaching/nursing jobs, but apparently I'd have to retrain anyhow!

Cricket you helpful old thing...karma sent! Hadn't come across this house site and it had a few that I hadn't seen before. The job one will also come in use I'm sure.

I'm really worrying about a job for hubby now that I want to return so much. It seems all the jobs we come across on the web have a ceiling of around 45-50,000 quid. He'd need closer to 70,000 as a minimum if it wasn't going to mean a massive drop in income.

He's seeing an employment agent today, but it will be a fairly general discussion initially.
