Australian mobile phone use in UK
Weeks away from our return to the UK my mobile phone has packed up. I was hoping it would last until we arrived in England.
It's a much loved cheapo Nokia and out of contract so I'm not tied to it.
My preference would be to replace it with something similar now. However, I've never tried to use an Australian mobile phone in the UK.
Is there any reason why an Australian mobile phone wouldn't work in the UK so long as it has a UK sim card? (And will UK sim cards fit all Aussie phones?)
I expect it would be fine, but I'd love to hear from those who've first hand knowledge before I buy another phone.
All advice appreciated.

When I'm in Aus my UKSim card sits in the Nokia and the Aus card in the iphone, when I'm in the UK I swap them over. Never had any issues with either, both phones work fine regardless of which card is in it. Just maje sure if you buy a phone in Aus that its unlocked, and not tied to Telstra or another Aus provider

I've got an old (approx2004) UK Nokia and an Aussie iphone 3.

SIM cards are universal sizes - "normal" or "micro".
You just need to get the right size for your phone. Some phones take both or you can get an adapter to make a "micro" fit a "normal".
Once you get back to UK , pop into ASDA or Tesco, buy a SIM, add some credit ,pop it in and away you go.
The best value UK SIM is with GiffGaff but can only be obtained by post.
ASDA is fairly cheap per minute and that's what I use when we go back to UK.
Wherever we visit I just buy a local SIM and text family the number.

Oh, forgot to say that you can buy a simple phone from ASDA ot Tesco for less than a tenner. This may be better for you.

Thanks also for your replies Quiltman.
I needed a mobile phone now so have opted for another cheapo Nokia (which saves having to re-learn a system while I've got other "stuff" to do.)
Will get online and organise a Giffgaff sim for when we arrive.
Many thanks.
